How much can I earn teaching art at an online University? Can I teach from Europe?
I live in a foreign country. I am from the united states and got my Master of Fine Arts at a good school there. I was a drawing instructor at a University in the USA before I moved to EUROPE. I can’t find work here. Can I work from a foreign country and how much do these jobs actually pay?
I am not sure what schools the other poster refers to but my experience with teaching online has been a fraction of the amount stated by her. If you are "part time", then you can expect to be paid prorated based on the number of students in the "virtual class". I have been paid as little as $1,000 to teach a course, which barely makes it worth it. The core hour breakdown for that is not a lot and of course, there is no "core hour" for distance learning usually but based on a traditional school, it works out to about USD$20 an hour. On a bright note, I teach from a foreign country also and that makes my earnings from teaching tax free until I hit a certain threshhold, which never happens since teaching is my "part time" job. Good luck, but truthfully, you "can" make $3,000 a course, but you better have a "ton" of students enrolled.
Expect somewhere between $2,500 and $3,500 per course. Most people teach one or two courses as a part-time job. You can certainly physically be anywhere in the world to teach online; the problem is whether or not tax laws in the country where you are living makes it possible both for them to hire you and for you to work for them. I don’t know if many online schools teach things like drawing; you would have a better shot at it if you taught something more rare and career-focused, since most of the online schools focus on those types of courses.
