how are med school admission gpa determined?
is the gpa for admission determined by all your years in University or just the last year? I had a horrible first year in school being ill and my gpa suffered so you can see why i’m worried?
Your cumulative GPA is evaluated. However, when examining your transcripts, your first year grades are (almost) forgiven. Most adcoms understand that students often have trouble adjusting to the demands of college.

Most medical schools pay most attention just to your math/science GPA. They recalculate it themselves so that it is pretty standard among the other applicants. They then consider where you attended college (grade is partially determined based on how you compare to classmates) and the level of the course you were taking. They take into account all years, but may be lenient toward your first year because many students are trying to find their way and get used to different methods of teaching In college, and their grades are a bit lower.
