Do law school admission committees look at the student’s high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores?

I have heard that when you apply to law school, the committees may ask for your High School GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Can anyone with experience applying to law school confirm or deny this?

They may ask for it, yes. There is room on some of the applications to provide this information.

From my understanding, there are two "theories" as to why some schools ask for this. One is that they use this if you are trying to make up for a low LSAT score by telling them that you always test poorly on standardized tests and standardized testing scores are not a good indicator of your ability to succeed in school. In that case, they will look at your SAT/ACT scores and see how those compare to your college grades. In other words, are you telling the truth about this? How much of a discrepancy is there between your scores and your college GPA?

The second "theory" has to do with the supposed correlation between LSAT and SAT scores. In the case that they may not have your LSAT score (perhaps your scores haven’t come back or you submit your app before you take the LSAT), they might use these to "predict" your LSAT score. I’ve included a link in the sources to an article regarding LSAT/SAT correlation.

Now, I have no idea how much truth either of these hold. I’m just passing along what I’ve heard through the grapevine. The bottom line is that law schools really only care about your LSAT score and college grades. A good LSAT score and solid college grades will be what gets you admitted to law school. Good luck!
