I am confident that I can secure letters of reccomendation from: an Alabama state senator, an internationally acclaimed author, and a highly ranked figure from the NEA. I am very curious as to (I have an otherwise solid application) if these letters of recommendation will help ensure my place at an Ivy League college and if not ensure, then what are the chances the letters will give my application an edge or push it over the top? I am applying to Yale and Harvard. Thank you.
This is a little tricky.
They want letters from people who know your academic work. Normally, all three should be from teachers with maybe one max from someone you interned from. Usually the forms make this clear.
On the other hand, if you family is super, super prominent it will help. Super prominent means your dad is John Grisham, not your dad’s friend is John Grishman. Or your mom is heir to Microsoft. Something major. Its not, my Mom/Dad is the DeKalb county DA.
I don’t think the letter are likely to give you an edge. They could end up hurting you, since none are academic. I’d look at the applications for specifics and email both schools to ask about extra and non-academic letters of reccomendation.

I’m doing my London A-levels at the moment and I want to know what requirements I need to get into the medical school in the University of MacGill,Canada?
Your chances to get into medical school in Canada are low unless you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

I have heard that when you apply to law school, the committees may ask for your high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Can anyone with experience applying to law school confirm or deny this?
They may ask for it, yes. There is room on some of the applications to provide this information.
From my understanding, there are two "theories" as to why some schools ask for this. One is that they use this if you are trying to make up for a low LSAT score by telling them that you always test poorly on standardized tests and standardized testing scores are not a good indicator of your ability to succeed in school. In that case, they will look at your SAT/ACT scores and see how those compare to your college grades. In other words, are you telling the truth about this? How much of a discrepancy is there between your scores and your college GPA?
The second "theory" has to do with the supposed correlation between LSAT and SAT scores. In the case that they may not have your LSAT score (perhaps your scores haven’t come back or you submit your app before you take the LSAT), they might use these to "predict" your LSAT score. I’ve included a link in the sources to an article regarding LSAT/SAT correlation.
Now, I have no idea how much truth either of these hold. I’m just passing along what I’ve heard through the grapevine. The bottom line is that law schools really only care about your LSAT score and college grades. A good LSAT score and solid college grades will be what gets you admitted to law school. Good luck!

I have just finished the second draft of my college application essay.
Before I start my final draft, I thought I would ask someone for some un-biased feedback. Does anyone want to read it?
Thank you.
I don’t want to post it up here, I’m paranoid.
Do you have an email address so I can just attach it?
Sure. Just e-mail it to me or send me a link.
Or paste it in the details. (forgot about that)
Edit: Sure. Just click on my avatar. There should be a link: e-mail Maria. (I don’t want to give out my e-mail to everyone)

Also, do you get the chance to do internships in syracuse University ? Because I know BU is highly recommended for internships.
Thanks in advance!
There are internships at both universities. I’ve met Syracuse grads, but I haven’t met BU grads yet… but likely that’s because I live in PA, not in the North east. BU has a good reputation as well… so you’d probably do well at either. Visit both campuses and get a vibe for the departments. Then go to the one that feels right for you.
Let me give you an example, when visiting med schools, my girlfriend visited Johns Hopkins, which is often ranked in the top 5, but she got a feeling it was really cut-throat when she visited there, and chose to go elsewhere for med school. I’m sure she’d of been a successful doctor either way, but she was successful where she went, and really liked her program.

The University of Michigan has early admission, I was wondering when the application is due. I think it is November and I’m not sure if it is Junior or Senior year. Please help?
That date should be on their website. Your application would be for the following year’s fall semester, so junior year if you’re going to skip senior year of high school or graduate early, senior year if you’re following the traditional path.
